Black Barbie

Black Barbies-hair styled with colored fur scraps that I gathered from the cutting room floor at work.

New York Dinners

I drank and dined a few times on my own in the city and decided to make this otherwise horrible experience ( I don't like going out to restaurants and dining solo) a little more fun by documenting it and sharing it with everyone. Don't think for a moment that just because I was by myself I didn't get my drink on!

Bond 45, formerly a men's department store converted to Italian restaurant. It has the best antipasto bar in the city!

Dinner at Marseille, a converted bank

My favorite experience was at the Cafe at Bryant Park. The weather was perfect, the food was great and they made the best frozen margarita!

And then a glass or two back at the Hotel

NYC

I was in New York last week but was working from the time I woke up to the time I went to bed. I didn't leave the Garment District for 5 days, and in between rolling racks of clothes down the cracked, crowded sidewalks of Manhattan, I was able to take a few snaps of the things around me.

I Give Up!

I poked it through the net a few times with a broomstick. It made the saddest but sweetest little cry yet didn't move. Then I started to think that maybe its the same bird whose offspring I crushed even before it had a chance to crack from its shell and mother has come back to the birthing spot to mourn and haunt from the other side of the net. Ok bird, you win. But I'm going to keep spilling my martinis on you and blowing smoke in your face.

TIFF

Tonight I experienced the Toronto International Film Festival for the first time. I went to see the Premiere of Mother and Child, the new film by Rodrigo Garcia.... excellent movie! Naomi Watts, Jimmy Smits and Kerry Washington were there. Our seats weren't as bad as they look in the pictures. I took some video, but it didn't turn out. I only had my phone with me and needless to say, it doesn't take the best photos !!

I miss you

I love how she smiles at the end of this next one... thinking back on good times!

Fun Things in Vegas

The Chihuly installation at the Bellagio

Crazy flower salad bar

My room key

Penny slots are the way to go. Big Money!

They were packing up the show and I just couldn't resist these two.

Caesars Palace

Ok this is probably my favourite spot in Vegas. I see all the marble statues and money just flies out of my pocket!... damn you forum shops!

Surprise at the Dallas Apparel Market

This was a total surprise. After the first 10 hour day at market, we packed up and headed down the elevator to the lobby. Fully expecting to just head back to the hotel, there was a full disco set up with free booze for all the exhibitors, go-go dancers everywhere and a drag dj spinning tunes and posing for the crowd! I took advantage and got as drunk as I look in the photo below. It was WILD!

Hotel and Tex Mex

Our Hotel in Dallas was very nice, but ultimately ruined by all the windows in our room that couldn't be enjoyed because of the view.

Tex Mex is all the rage in Dallas and we frequented a few of them about town.

On our second night we did 'upscale Tex Mex' (which I didn't know existed), but the restaurant was nestled among an oasis of a shopping plaza with top notch jewelery and fashion boutiques.

They all offered table side guacamole where they prepare and mash the ingredients right at your table but this restaurant had the best rooftop patio. It was so hot outside, but the Texan singer who sang the whole time we were there never took a break!

Dallas

When I arrived in Dallas I felt like I was in the middle of nowhere. Long stretches of highways and roads lead from the airport and as I approached downtown the crystal buildings slowly start popping up getting bigger and bigger. For the most part the skyline looked sparkling brand new, but amongst the towering jewels were pieces of Texan history.

The building from which JFK was shot has now been turned into a museum.

The first Neiman Marcus.. (aka Needless Markup)

There was also a lot of really great art downtown Dallas and the galleries (although closed by the time I found them) had some great works displayed.
